Zephyros — 3D/RDS model

DNV and Green Digital are running a short pilot that links a wind digital twin (Zephyros) with IEC/ISO 81346 Reference Designation Structure (RDS) and knowledge graph technology. The aim is to demonstrate a practical end-to-end workflow where RDS-coded structures and relationships can be generated, merged, enriched and explored in a 3D context—supporting “show & share” collaboration across the wind value chain.

What we are piloting

  • Translate structured outputs from DNV’s Renewable Architect into RDS-coded objects and explicit relationships (across relevant RDS aspects).
  • Merge and enrich this RDS-based knowledge graph with the Zephyros digital twin’s RDS aspect model.
  • Visualize and navigate the combined model in a 3D viewer to validate that the graph and the geometry stay aligned.
  • Test how RDS-coded structures can support downstream use cases such as cost modeling.

Why it matters for RDS4X

  • Shows how IEC/ISO 81346 RDS can act as a stable “digital language” connecting data, models and 3D representation for wind assets.
  • Demonstrates an approach to build wind-focused knowledge graphs that remain interoperable across tools, suppliers and lifecycle phases.
  • Creates reusable patterns for mapping structured engineering outputs into RDS-coded graphs that can be exchanged and extended.
  • Provides concrete learnings on what is required to keep the knowledge graph and 3D twin synchronized.

Pilot outline

The pilot focuses on (1) mapping to RDS codes and relationships, (2) merging/enriching the result with the Zephyros RDS aspect model, and (3) validating the outcome through 3D visualization. Along the way we capture practical guidance on workflows, tooling and data requirements for RDS-based digital twins.

Timeline & status

Results from the pilot will be available Q3-2026, status on the pilot will be given at the upcoming f2f Toulouse gathering 28th May 2026

Partners

This collaboration brings together DNV (Renewable Architect) and Green Digital (knowledge graph tooling and 3D viewer), building on Zephyros as a wind digital twin example and using RDS as the common structuring principle.

Expected outcomes

  • A repeatable method for translating structured engineering outputs into RDS-coded knowledge graph content.
  • A small demonstrator that merges/enriches the Zephyros RDS aspect model with additional RDS-coded relationships and makes it explorable in 3D.
  • A concise set of learnings and recommendations for follow-on work (e.g., additional enrichment such as rules/requirements, and broader interoperability tests).
